New Year’s Resolutions – New Site, New Ideas, New Goals

My wife and I have set aside time around the New Years each year to go over resolutions for each other and our family. It’s a great time to go over how the previous year went, our successes and areas of growth, as well as to start planning for the next year.

We’ve got a lot of amazing things planned for the next year, including some great trips, but I’m going to focus on the goals I have that will directly impact this site.

Woodworking

I’ve got plans to really step up my game in regards to woodworking. Right now I have plans to make a chest of drawers/shelving combo, a couple bedside tables, and a platform for our king-sized bed.

I need a couple of additional tools, a pocket jig primary of the tools I need, but once this cold snap finally lets up I’ll look to post more about this.

I had a blog a couple of years ago called “This Old Minneapolis Home,” and I’m hoping to start including posts like the ones I posted there on this site.

Healthy meals for the kids

One area I struggle with is creating healthy meals for my kids (and myself). I’m a “pizza” vegetarian, meaning mostly I eat a typically terrible American diet, and I’m going to start making healthier meals for my kiddos. When I find a good recipe, I’ll post it on here.

Keep in shape

Since my surgeries, I haven’t been the most active guy. This past year I really started to change that, including running a 5k for the first time. I’ll be caring the momentum into the new year, working to stay healthy and fit.

Keep reading books

I’ve been a voracious reader this year, all thanks to the Libby app. I’ll post miniature book reviews on here when I finish a book.

Keep writing

I’ve been focused on writing about soccer, mainly under my real name over at fiftyfive.one, and I’m planning on continuing to do so. But my goal is to make sure that I have at least one thing posting on this site everyday.

I realize that’s an ambitious goal, but I have some ideas for different types of posts that I will include on this site.

Ultimately, I hope all this practice with writing will allow me this summer to take the step and finally write my “great american” novel I’ve been so convinced I’ve had inside me all this time.

That’s the goals for 2018. Hold me to them, internet.
