Review: Travelers – TV Series

Travelers, a tasty morsel of sci-fi bubblegum

Travelers, a netflix series with Will (Eric McCormack) from Will & Grace as one of the leads, follows five “travelers,” or people from the future who have downloaded into the brains of a person about to die. They have been sent back into the past to change the future, being lead by a mysterious A.I. known only as the director.

The time traveling doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but it has suitable limitations that allow the stories to be fraught with drama and tension, rather than constant “magical” fixes to all the problems.

The show is at its best when the main characters are able to think and wonder about the people around them, slowly becoming intermeshed with people they don’t know.

The episodes remind me a lot of X-Files, with a bit of Leverage-style planning and surprise solutions.

An aside, The show is Canadian, and I enjoy when obviously Canadianisms pop out (I swear one of the leads said “a-boot” in the first season).

Recommendation: If you liked X-Files, you’ll probably enjoy this show.
