Above our garage door sits a motion sensor light. At some point, we might need to move it so we can install a basketball hoop, but it’ll work for now. When we moved in, it was a bit sad. It had one working light in it’s two sockets, and it was a normal 60 watt bulb.
We went to the not so local hardware store to do a bit of shopping, and picked up these LED flood lights. For about 20 bucks each (they were on sale), we now have light bulbs out there that will never go out in the foreseeable future and draw significantly less energy than your typical light bulb.

A little bit of playing around with the sensitivity (the rabbits love to set it off) and the direction and length of time so it’s not shining in our neighbor’s house at 2 AM, and they are working great, and the cold weather hasn’t seemed to affect them at all. As opposed to most CFL light bulbs, they turn on immediately, and the light is very bright.
The one thing we had to be careful with is making sure the light bulbs were rated for outdoor use. As you can see, the light fixture is a bit exposed, and I didn’t want to throw in something that couldn’t handle the elements. With this winter, they have definitely been tested, and seem to be working out great.
