Collected GM Advice: Adventure Design

Rather than reinvent the wheel, I thought it would be better to just collect all the great ideas and suggestions that people have been posting on the interwebs.  Here are some of the best links for Adventure Design for Dungeon Masters/Game Masters.

The Adventure Funnel: A great framework for creating adventures in a four step process, goals, obstacles, details and rewards.  Really helps to formulate the overarching idea behind an adventure without creating a railroad for your players to follow.

The Big List of RPG Plots: A big list of a variety of RPG Plots for GMs to steal/borrow from.

The 5X5 Campaign Generation Method: A method for creating a campaign story arc whereby the GM creates 5 major quests, and then 5 steps along the way to solving that major quest.  It lets a GM create a story arc that still lets the players have some agency, while still allowing the GM to have some idea where the campaign is going.

Campaign Design Posts from KJD-IMC: Great posts about Campaign Design including West Marches, the rule three and other topics.  Thanks Keith for the suggestion!

If you have any other suggestions, I’d love to hear them!

I’d like to see my Campaign Setting Design series on this list, I’m fairly proud of the material there.
