News from the Past Week, August 19th Edition

Each week I try to pull together the biggest news, best blog posts and most interesting forum discussions.  Read on to find out what piqued my interest!

News

Animal Crime Kickstarter: Animal Crime looks like a fun RPG that calls itself a animal noir game.  Could be a lot of fun.  If that sounds like something you may like, think about dropping a five in their tip jar to help fun the art.

The Quiet Year: I just got a copy of the Quiet Year playtest.  I really am looking forward to playing this!

Blackbyrne Publishing Review: This review really sold me on what is coming out of Blackbyrne Publishing.  I’m going to have to check this out, as it sounds like a really cool adventure path/campaign setting.

Cairn of the Winter King: Review of the adventure that came with the Monster Vault.  Simple one sentence summary: great fights, not so great story.  Sounds like most 4e adventures.

Enchanted Grounds: Really cool nerd store/coffee shop.  Makes me wish I live in Colorado.

Morrus’ Gencon Report: Morrus’ Gencon report.

Blog Posts

Fiasco Playset Listing: A great resource that sadly hasn’t been updated recently with many many Fiasco playsets.  Very nice resource.

Forum Posts

No Luck Atoll: Fiasco Playset: A interesting Lost/Gilligan’s Island inspired Fiasco Playset.  Looks like a lot of fun.

Why is so little fantasy ‘colonial’, ‘imperial’ or ‘New World’?: A great discussion on Story-Games about why Fantasy games so seldom deal with colonial, imperial or New World.  I personally think it’s because Fantasy is at it’s root escapist, and in America in particular, when you think of the process of colonization, it’s just depressing what was done to the indigenous populations.

Updates to older Posts

I periodically update older posts as I find newer and more interesting links to include.  Here are some updates from this week.

Enworld Retroclones: A post on Enworld’s front page going over many of the retroclones available to players.  I’m adding it to my Retroclones post.

RPG Characters Blog: Periodically this blogger posts maps that he encourages people to use to create adventures.  The maps themselves have a very cool old school feel.  Check out my post about creating D&D maps.
