I am very very excited about this game that Joe McDaldno is currently working on. I’ve asked to be part of the playtest, but he hasn’t gotten back to me yet, which makes me a bit sad…:)
What makes me so excited is that I love making maps. Probably one of my favorite games of all time is Carcassone, and I’ll admit, I rarely play that game all that cutthroat. I’m the guy who is helping everyone else find the best spot for their pieces.
The Quiet Year is about a year when a post apocalyptic community is finally able to rest after a long war with the Jackals and build their settlement. It ends when the Frost Shepherds come and likely destroy the community and everything they have built. The play mechanic apparently uses a deck of cards.
That’s about all I know about it so far, but I’m excited to try the game when I get my hands on it.
Check out this amazing handmade deck of cards someone made for the game after playing it once.
Edit: and here’s a podcast and a copy of the map from Actual Play.
