Pandemic: Board Game Review

Pandemic is a cooperative board game, where you play as health professionals working to prevent diseases from overrunning the world.

The group I play with finds this game to be a pretty fun, quick cooperative game.  As opposed to say, Arkham Horror or Shadows over Camelot, Pandemic takes about 30 to 45 minutes to play all the way through, particularly when you start to get pretty good at it.  When we started getting better at it, we did find that the game became pretty easy.  When playing, we rarely didn’t succeed in meeting a victory condition, even on the hardest level.

Favorite Parts:

The way that the characters powers and actions work together to encourage cooperation.

The fact that you get 4 actions in a turn.  It feels like no matter what, you almost always have something cool to do on your turn because of that.

If you find its getting too easy, you should pick up the expansion called On the Brink. It gives you new character roles and increases the difficulty by making one of the diseases harder to kill by making it a virulent strain and also adding a fifth mutated disease.

I definitely would like to get it, just haven’t had the chance right now. I just moved, and realized that I have 3 boxes worth of board games, and I should probably enjoy the games I have first before getting expansions/new games. I’m headed to gencon though next week, and I might pick it up there. When/if I do, I’ll definitely add a review of it here.
