Where does Mason Jennings fit? Is he a easy going folk singer like Jack Johnson? Is he the next Bob Dylan? Is he an Eliot Smith-esque singer songwriter who sings about love and loss? As this album shows, he’s all three.
This album will be most appreciated by hardcore Mason Jennings fans. Most of the versions sound like slightly worse recorded versions of the studio albums. However, the band included a second guitarist, and some songs features slightly different arrangements, like Tourist and Ballad of My Own True Love, including a steel guitar.
Would I recommend this as the first album? No, but if you already own a couple of his albums, this is likely a must buy.
