TV Review – Hawaii 5-0, or really advertisers?

I happen to be a big fan of classic TV.  Since the days of nick-at-nite, I have enjoyed watching TV from other eras.  A local tv station, KSTC45, used to play (classic) Hawaii 5-0 and In the Heat of the Night, two classic cop dramas.  There’s plenty of cop dramas out there thes days, some that go from bad to worse, and the new Hawaii 5-0 is definitely one of the worst shows, but I’m not really going to talk much about that.  Well, one thing, the two main detectives driving down a busy main street in Honolulu with a suspect strapped to the hood of your car.  Really?  Really?

I honestly don’t mind product placements in my shows.  Having real products adds a level of realism to shows, and if my favorite shows can help pay the bill by slipping in some product placements, go for it.  But I have to complain about how Windows Smart phones and Bing appeared in this episode.

In trying to find the location of some mcguffin or bad guy, a character (athena from battlestar galactica), decided to whip out the windows phone and bing it, even saying “let’s bing it” or something equally awkward.  Sure, bing might be a good search engine, and windows phones might be great, but if you’re going to place it in a show, please, please at least employ a screenwriter to make it at least sound decent.
