Music Review: The National – High Violet

The National can best be described as downer music, and their latest album is no exception.  The two big songs playing on the local radio here are definitely from The National mold of old, with the deep voiced lyrics, driving rhythms and some choral work even on the song “sorrow”.   I find myself turning to this album more and more as the weather grows colder, and the days grow shorter.  Walking through my neighborhood, it’s like Matt Berninger and I are sharing something warm at a local coffee shop, commiserating on the terrible state of things.  I can’t always be as sad as he might be, but sometimes it’s just nice to wallow.

4/5 stars…
