So, I’m currently on a train taking me from Michigan back to Minnesota for a week of training that was necessary before I found out I was going to have a different job this next school year. The sun is setting across the the Mississippi, while the train hugs the western shore up through Winona. I finished this book in about ten hours, while riding the train and waiting in Chicago at Union Station. It’s been a good summer so far, and this is a great book to read.
My dad would enjoy the occasional mystery, and I can’t help but think that he would have enjoyed this one. The interspersed facts about crimes against women connected this slightly more sinister world to our own. The locale in Sweden had an exotic feel to it, even though it was -20 degrees out.
The best part though were multiple plots that don’t all get summed up in one final fell swoop, although that’s not to say they didn’t have any influence on one another. Too often a noir book or movie feels the need to have the ultimate confrontation with the one person pulling all the strings. Life is messier than that, and this book reflects that.
I’d give it **** stars, and say that it’s a book that should be on your list.
